Your donation of equipment or money will go towards CorkNest project and nothing else. The main costs are as follows:
- Ongoing nestbox design
& hardware
- Board cameras, outside camera, replacing damaged cameras (irish damp weather!)
- LED lighting white & infra red
- Lighting control circuit and mains timers
- 40 meters cabling: 3x Video, Audio, 12v power
- Power supplies - 5x 12 volt transformers
- 4 Channel video to USB box (RapidOS) connected to laptop for broadcasting pics
- DVR security video recorder, 4 channels
- 2x Microphones and preamps
- Off the shelf next boxes that are then modifed
- Web hosting and Domain name Domain name for CorkNest.com
- Bird food & feeders:
- 2 bag 25kg peanuts for year round supply
- 2 lots (look away now if you're squeamish...) 500g live mealworms used after hatching to help the parents in case the natural food supply is in short supply.
- Dedicated wireless Broadband for video and live pictures uploading from a laptop.
- Video streaming sofware, need to purchase i-catcher
- Additional 'pilot' nest boxes in the garden with a cheap single camera to increase chances of nest box occupation. As soon as it looks like the box is going to be adopted it's replaced with a multi cam one. There are currently 2 nestboxes 1 pilot & 1 multicam.
Then next big challenge is to get in closer to the newly hatched chicks.
For donations over €2.50 you will recieve a free DVD of all the video and pics on this site (it just saves you downloading them from here). It will be posted world-wide. The 2010 videos are in Windows player format (WMV) and better quality AVI (for free VLC player) formats for use on your computer. It includes clips from all 3 cameras - outside, overhead and close up side cameras. The sound is in stereo - the microphones are at nest level on opposide sides of the box - so stick on you headphones and turn up the volume!
Please note that CorkNest project is NOT a charity - you are simply helping in developing this project further so we can all see better images of young chicks. If you want I will list your name in a list of doners. If you are a company - you can be listed as as a sponser with a link and you can donate equipment instead of money. The project is located in Cork, Ireland. Questions & comments: Contact
